Case Study #1

Industry: Aerospace

Challenge: Obtain specific bore parameters (finish & size) and high production requirements that the customer currently had a 60% success rate.

Solution: Manufacture a honing system with the following features:

  • Two station automatic rotary index table for high production requirements capable of automation inclusive of robotic load and unload.
  • Two stage rough/finish honing system to obtain a specific 25-30 un in RA with .001" ID tolerance with .0005" straightness and roundness tolerance on 5.125" bores with a rotary servo feed system.

Result: We were able to triple their previous production rates with a 50 second cycle time obtaining their required bore parameters. Repeating the ID size, straightness and roundness with .0005" with a 26-29 un in Ra finish consistently.

Case Study #2

Industry: Petroleum

Challenge: Increase production rates while maintaining bore size and finish requirements.

Solution: Manufacture a heavy-duty honing system with the following capacities:

  • Two station rotary index table for increase production requirements.
  • Two stage rough/finish tool feed system with size plug type automatic sizing.

Result: We were able to significantly increase their production rates by reducing their cycle times from 30 minute a part to an average of 8 minutes a part repeating size within .001" and obtaining a finish requirement of 12 un in RA or better.

Case Study #3

Industry: Job Shop Drill, Bore, Hone and Turn Shop

Challenge: Develop a versatile honing system with auto sizing to hone .75" thru 5.0" bores.

Solution: Manufacture a vertical honing system with the following features:

  • Servo automatic size control.
  • Universal pneumatic part holding fixture.
  • Two stage rough/finish tool feed system for a wide range of finish requirements in a wide range of materials.

Result: We able to produce 90 second cycle times removing .018" stock in a 1.0" 718 Inconel bore with .0005" repeatability. Also rapid part change in a pneumatic universal fixturing system. Utilizing two stage honing tools for require finishes in all materials.
