Company Steeped in Tradition Embraces Technology Solutions that Provide Long-Term Value and Simplify Customer Operations
ASHLAND, Ohio (September 5, 2018) –As a leader in the honing machinery and abrasives industry with expertise that extends several decades, Ohio Tool Works decided it is time to shake things up. The company has initiated an aggressive technology play that it expects will transform the honing industry, delivering machinery and abrasives solutions that improve customer operations and profitability.
OTW has launched the honing industry’s first e-commerce website for abrasive stones, enabling current customers to re-order honing abrasives online and new customers to find OTW replacements for other product brands, like Sunnen.
The company will demo the new site abrasives.ohiotoolworks.com during IMTS 2018 in Chicago, Sept. 10-15. Customers registering will receive a 25% discount for all orders placed online during the show by using the discount code IMTS2018. Orders placed after the show through Nov. 10 will be discounted 15% by using the discount code ECOMM.
Also during IMTS, OTW will showcase technology advancements in its honing machinery.
The vertical VersaHone V-36-1, OTW’s newest entrant into its honing machinery lineup, has been updated to enable better data collection and analysis and integration in IIoT-enabled shops. VersaHone horizontal and vertical honing machines, which now come standard with Allen-Bradley controls, feature full servo control on all axes and an updated user interface. The updated VersaHone is highly customizable, offering full connectivity to a wide range of shop management platforms and methods.
In addition to making the machines more user-friendly, the updated machinery provides improved power, precision, repeatability and feedback. OTW will display its redesigned VersaHone V-36-1 vertical honing machine at IMTS.
In a nod to its customers’ requests for shorter lead times on new equipment, OTW has completely redesigned its popular medium-duty OTW 1000 horizontal honing machine. The new machine features full servo control and a redesigned user interface, Allen-Bradley controls and a new, modular platform that will improve equipment order lead times by 30%.
The revamped OTW 1000 on display at IMTS will be sold at the show.
OTW President Tim Humphrey acknowledged the role of OTW customers in driving the company’s evolution. “We are building a technology company aimed at transforming our industry. We plan to leverage technology to become partners in productivity with our customers,” he said.
“We will simplify the purchasing process and service experience, and enhance the capability of our machines with advanced controls and connectivity. Customer needs and anticipation of future customer requirements remain at the center of everything we do,” he said.
As part of the company’s technology-driven evolution, OTW has unveiled a new logo, and plans to launch a re-branded website later this year.
“We are excited to reveal the evolution of our company logo and image. Our new logo is the result of a months-long journey that brought us to the realization of what we can provide our customers: Simplicity, Technology, Longevity,” he said. “Our products, through the integration of advanced technologies, will simplify our customer’s operations, enabling our company and theirs together to stand the test of time.”
